First-half spurt pushes Marshfield boys basketball past Wausau East

WAUSAU – The Marshfield boys basketball team used a 47-point first half to take a commanding lead and went on to defeat Wausau East 77-65 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference contest Friday night at Wausau East High School.

The Tigers led 47-27 at halftime and were able to hold off a run from Wausau East to send the Lumberjacks to their first loss of the season.

Brooks Hinson finished 11-for-15 from the field, including 5-for-8 from 3-point range, and finished with a game-high 28 points for Marshfield (3-2, 2-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference). Landon Lee added a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists, and Valin Ramberg chipped in 14 points in the victory.

Jesse Napgezek had 23 points, and Jaydan Garrett had three 3-pointers and 15 points for Wausau East (7-1, 1-1 WVC).

Marshfield will travel to DisneyWorld in Florida to play in a three-day tournament with games on Dec. 27, 28 and 30. Those games will be streamed live at zaleskisports.com.
