Fischer nets game-winner in overtime as Marshfield boys hockey tops Ashland

MADISON – Wyatt Fischer finished off a hat trick with a goal 4:08 into overtime to lead the Marshfield boys hockey team to a 5-4 win over Ashland in a consolation bracket game at the Culver’s Cup on Friday at Hartmeyer Ice Arena.

Marshfield built a 2-0 lead on goals from Alex Chen and Fischer before a wild third period.

Ashland scored three goals in the opening half of the period to take the lead before Fischer scored again to knot the score at 3-3.

After a goal from the Oredockers, Jack Mattila tied it for the Tigers with 3:29 to go in regulation and the game went to overtime.

In the extra period, Fischer knocked home the game-winner off an assist by Cash Frey as the Tigers move to 1-1 in the tournament and 4-8 overall.

Neil Mullins made 24 saves in goal for Marshfield.

Marshfield will wrap up play at the tournament with a game at 4:15 p.m. Saturday at Hartmeyer Ice Arena.
