MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic girls basketball team overcame a rough game shooting with a strong defensive effort and defeated Athens 44-27 in a nonconference game Friday at Columbus Catholic High School.

The Dons (6-5) shot just 26 percent (16-for-60), but held Athens to 10 of 45 from the field and just eight points in the second half to earn the home win.

Gracie Wilczek had four 3-pointers and 18 points, and Sophie Wilczek scored 12 points for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic hosts Greenwood for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
