MARATHON – Auburndale overcame a near half-court shot buzzer beater to the end the first overtime and made just enough free throws in the second to defeat Marathon 72-69 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Tuesday night at Marathon High School.
The game was tied 52-52 after regulation and Auburndale went up 62-59 after a free throw with 4 seconds left in the first overtime.
Marathon inbounded after a timeout and Ean Shuda raced down court and hit a running 3-point shot just past halfcourt at buzzer to send the game to second OT tied at 62-62.
The game came down to free throw shooting for the Eagles, who were able to finish 27-for-34 at the line to pull out the victory.
Blake Raab scored a game-high 30 points and Peyton Weinfurter added 14 for Auburndale, which is now 11-1 overall and 6-1 in the Marawood South after posting its sixth-straight win.
Drew Woelfel led Marathon (8-4, 5-2 Marawood South) with 17 points.
Auburndale will host Stratford, which is also 6-1 in the Marawood South, for sole possession of first place in the Marawood South on Friday at 7:15 p.m. Click here to view the Marawood South boys basketball standings
