MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield wrestling team closed out its regular season in style Thursday night at the Marshfield High School Fieldhouse.
On Senior Night, the Tigers posted 12 wins in 14 matches and thoroughly dominated Stevens Point Area Senior High 59-9 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet.
The Tigers won five matches by pin, including one by Josh Shupe at 135 pounds. Shupe pinned Emmit Simkowski in 3:46.
“Josh Shupe and Kyler Strobel had a really good night by defeating two of their better wrestlers,” Marshfield coach Don Lang said.
Strobel won the 140-pound match over Joey Mathe 10-6.
Also posting pins for the Tigers (4-2 WVC 16-5 overall) were Toran Nieman at 103 pounds, Chris Schmidt at 119, Torin Boernke at 130 and Trenton Larson at 160.
Brad Dolezal (152) and Jordan Koranda (215) completed undefeated regular seasons in the Valley with forfeit wins.
Wisconsin Rapids won the dual meet title in the Valley by beating Wausau West 44-12 in a rematch of last year’s WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament championship match on Thursday. West finishes second, with Marshfield third in the standings.
The Tigers are off until the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament at SPASH on Feb. 6.
