Wisconsin Rapids holds off Marshfield boys hockey

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids used three second-period goals to build a lead and held off Marshfield 4-3 in Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey action Thursday night at the South Wood County Recreation Center.

Marshfield led 1-0 after a goal by Wyatt Fischer before the Raiders scored three times in a 7 ½-minute stretch of the second period to take a 3-1 lead.

Fischer scored again early in the third for the Tigers (7-13, 0-8 WVC), but Rapids’ Ryan Dietz tacked on a goal to push its lead back to two.

Joey Cashmer scored on a power play with 3:33 remaining for Marshfield, but the Tigers couldn’t get the tying goal to go in the final minutes.

Neil Mullins made 24 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield’s next game is Thursday, Feb. 6 at Merrill against the Wausau East/Merrill United BlueJacks.
