Second-half push leads Columbus Catholic girls basketball past Loyal

MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic girls basketball team overcame a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Loyal 51-42 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Friday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Loyal led 20-14 before the Dons turned it on, using a 37-22 advantage in the second half to win going away.

The Dons finished 19-for-22 from the free throw line with Katelyn Casperson making 11 of 12 to end up with a game-high 24 points. Casperson also hit three of Columbus Catholic’s eight 3-pointers in the victory as they improve to 10-8 overall and 5-6 in the Cloverbelt East.

Autumn Zvolena had five 3-pointers and 22 total points for Loyal (6-9, 4-7 Cloverbelt East).

Columbus Catholic hosts Wausau Newman Catholic for a nonconference game Monday at 7:15 p.m.
