Wausau East/Merrill shuts out Marshfield boys hockey

MERRILL – Wausau East/Merrill United scored four times in the second period to break open a close game and went on to shut out Marshfield 6-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Thursday at the Merrill Area Recreation Center.

Connor Zdroik scored with 3:46 left in the first period to break open a scoreless tie, and the BlueJacks (9-14, 2-8 WVC) tacked on four more goals, two by Brody Klebenow, in the first 10 minutes of the second period to take complete control.

Chase Klebenow saved all 20 shots he saw in goal for Wausau East/Merrill in its conference finale.

Marshfield goalie Neil Mullins finished with 31 saves for the Tigers (8-14, 0-9 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Marshfield will finish its Wisconsin Valley Conference season at Stevens Point on Tuesday before hosting Waupaca for its regular-season finale on Thursday, Feb. 13.
