Columbus Catholic girls basketball holds on for road victory at Colby

COLBY – Columbus Catholic held off a second-half rally to defeat Colby 55-50 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Thursday at Colby High School.

The Dons led by 10 at halftime before Colby was able to close the gap, but was able to squeeze out the five-point win despite shooting just 32 percent from the field and missing 12 of 23 free throw attempts.

Izzy Holz scored 16 points, and Katelyn Casperson and Gracie Wilczek each had 14 for the Dons, who are now 12-8 overall and 6-6 in the Cloverbelt East. Wilczek also added a team-high eight rebounds in the win.

Angelique Hernandez made five of Colby’s 11 3-pointers and scored a team-best 18 points as the Hornets fall to 3-14 and 1-11 in conference play.

Columbus Catholic’s next game is Tuesday at Greenwood.
