Auburndale girls basketball player Myah Katzenberger has been voted the Schierl Tire and Auto Service High School Athlete of the Month for January.
MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports co-sponsor the award, which is in its 12th year.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award, which will be given out monthly from September 2024 through June 2025: Abbotsford, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.
Katzenberger received 1,213 of the more than 3,700 votes cast during voting from Feb. 3-9 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the January award were: Stevens Point boys basketball player Grant Chandonais, Marshfield boys swimmer Simon Dagit, Mosinee boys basketball player Brayden Reinke, Neillsville girls basketball player Sydney Subke and Columbus Catholic girls basketball player Gracie Wilczek.
Katzenberger picked up her game in the month of January, scoring in double figures in four of the Eagles’ last five games, including a career-high 18 points in a big Marawood Conference South Division win over Stratford on Jan. 16. Katzenberger followed that up with a pair of 13-point games and 14 in Auburndale’s lone loss of the month against first-place Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Jan. 30 as the Eagles went 9-1 in January.
Katzenberger joins Abbotsford football player Christian Fuentes (September), Stratford volleyball player Kalyn Schueller (October), Marshfield girls basketball player Zaida Kolbeck (November) and Spencer boys basketball player Sam Bezlyk (December) as a winner of the Schierl Tire Athlete of the Month award during the 2024-25 school year.
