WAUSAU – The Stratford girls basketball team clamped down on Wausau Newman Catholic, holding the Cardinals to just one made basket in the first half, and rolled to a 64-24 victory in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday at Newman Catholic High School.
The Tigers led 33-4 after the first half and outscored Newman Catholic by 11 in the second half to finish off the huge win, their seventh in a row.
Tria Tubbs scored 16 points, Carly Pankratz added 11 and Kayla Casperson 10 in the victory for Stratford (17-4, 12-2 Marawood South).
Newman Catholic ended up with only six made field goals, all of which were 3-pointers. Claire Bodenheimer led the Cardinals (3-17, 2-12 Marawood South) with seven points.
Stratford will play its regular-season home finale against Rib Lake in a Marawood crossover game Thursday.
