GREENWOOD – The Columbus Catholic girls basketball team pulled ahead with just under two minutes to go and were able to hold on for a 49-47 win over Greenwood in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Tuesday at Greenwood High School.
The Dons led 21-16 at halftime before Greenwood fought back midway through the second half to go ahead.
The lead went back-and-forth before Chayse Blenker scored inside for Columbus Catholic with 1:45 to go, giving the Dons a 44-43 lead.
The Dons made five of six free throws, including two by Gracie Wilczek with 29 seconds left, to maintain the lead.
After Greenwood made a pair of free throws and the Dons missed twice at the line, the Indians had a chance to win it but missed a 3-pointer and time expired, sealing the win and the conference season-sweep for Columbus (13-8, 7-6 Cloverbelt East).
Izzy Holz finished with 13 points, Gracie Wilczek had 11 and Sophie Wilczek 10 for the Dons.
Tysen Lindner had 15 points and 13 rebounds to pace Greenwood (13-7, 8-5 Cloverbelt East).
Columbus Catholic will wrap up its Cloverbelt East season at home against Gilman on Friday.
