HOLMEN – Eleven of Marshfield’s 14 wrestlers had top-four finishes to qualify for next week’s individual sectional as the Tigers took third place in the team standings at a WIAA Division 1 wrestling regional on Saturday at Holmen High School.
Grayden Rode, Haiden Carlson, Caleb Dennee and Brok Carolfi won individual regional titles for Marshfield.
Holmen won the team title with 250.5 points and West Salem/Bangor was second with 240.5, just 5.5 points better than Marshfield. Holmen and West Salem/Bangor move on to the D-1 team sectional at Hudson on Tuesday.
Holmen will take on New Richmond and West Salem/Bangor will face Menomonie in the semifinals, with the winners meeting for a spot in the 2025 WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament at the UW Fieldhouse in Madison on March 7-8.
Rode (32-9) won the 157-pound title with a pin of Hunter Huntington of Sparta in 1:39; Carlson (30-6) earned a 12-3 major decision over Jonathon Lamprich of Holmen to claim the 165-pound championship, and Dennee (44-2) won the title at 175 with a pin of Abraham Henderson of Holmen in 2:33 in the finals.
The top four in each weight class at the regional move on to a Division 1 individual sectional at Eau Claire North next Saturday, Feb. 22. The top two at each weight at the sectional qualify for the 2025 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which will be held Feb. 27-March 1 at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Jon Sternweis (23-4 at 126), Easton Ledden (34-12 at 144) and Jace Frick (24-10 at 215) all finished second for the Tigers.
Carter Williquette (28-14) placed third at 113 pounds, Kashton Kilty (22-21) was third at 138, Micah Bremer (23-19) was fourth at 106 and Joshuah Taylor (18-11) took fourth at 190 to also advance for Marshfield.
