HUDSON – Marshfield will be well-represented at the WIAA State Boys Swimming and Diving Championships next week as two individuals and a relay team advanced at a Division 1 sectional Friday and Saturday at Hudson Middle School.
On Friday, Shaun Hunter finished second in the diving competition with a total score of 394.80, to move on to state for the second time for Marshfield after also qualifying in 2023.
In the swimming events on Saturday, Simon Dagit took second in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.62 seconds, and teamed with Zach Kayhart, Carson Klumb and Kevin Buth to finish second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:31.24, to also move on to the state meet.
Dagit’s swim in the butterfly and the 200 freestyle relay team’s time broke their own school records set at last year’s sectional.
Dagit and Klumb were both part of the 200 free relay team that advanced to state in 2023.
The 2025 WIAA State Boys Swimming & Diving Championships will be held at Waukesha South High School, with Division 2 competition on Friday, Feb. 21, and Division 1 events on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Winners of each event and the next 18 finishers statewide at the five diving and six swimming sectionals qualify for the state meet.
Marshfield’s 200 medley relay team of Kayhart, Joshua Peters, Dagit and Buth came up less than one second short of another state berth as it finished third in 1:41.82. The final cutoff for the event was 1:41.09.
