EAU CLAIRE – Marshfield sophomore Erika Sleznikow and senior Ava Gardner, Spencer/Columbus Catholic/Granton’s Anna Becker and Auburndale’s Jasmine Herbert are heading to state after winning their respective weight classes at a WIAA girls wrestling sectional Friday at Eau Claire North High School.
The top two finishers in each weight class at the sectional qualify for the 2025 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which will be held Feb. 27-March 1 at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Sleznikow (32-0) qualified for her first state tournament and continued her undefeated season with a pin of Jaelyn Bowe of Eau Claire Regis/Altoona in 47 seconds in the 126-pound final.
Gardner (33-2), who won the 100-pound state title a year ago, will be back at state for the third time in a row after she won by a 17-0 technical fall over Kaytlynn Lambries of Holmen in the 107-pound final.
Becker (29-8), a freshman, won the 235-pound title for the Rockets with a pin in 3:01 of Rainie Yang of Eau Claire North in the championship match.
Auburndale’s Herbert (40-13), a sophomore, is moving on to state for the first time as well. She lost in the 138-pound final to Riley Hanrahan of Black River Falls by pin in 54 seconds.
Spencer/Columbus Catholic/Granton’s Azariah Hoffman had her season end with a 35-6 record. She reached the finals, but lost to Layla Risler by pin and then dropped a second-place wrestleback to Katelyn Nosbisch 11-8 in overtime.
Stratford’s Hailey Fecker and Wynn Schoenherr, and Auburndale’s Valencia de la Torre failed to finish in the top four in their respective weight classes.
