STRATFORD – Stratford held Wausau Newman Catholic to just 11 second-half points to open up a tight game and defeat the Cardinals 54-38 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Friday night at Stratford High School.
The Tigers led 32-27 at halftime before doubling up Newman Catholic in the second half to pull away for their ninth win in a row.
Drew Bruesewitz scored 15 points and Brooks Vanderhoof added 14 for Stratford, which improves to 20-2 overall and 12-2 in the Marawood South.
The win for the Tigers sets up a matchup at home against Auburndale with first-place in the Mraawood South on the line. Auburndale, which defeated Edgar on Friday, is 13-1 in the conference.
Lucas Pfiffner had 14 points to lead Newman Catholic (4-18, 2-12 Marawood South).
