EAU CLAIRE – Eight Stratford wrestlers and five from Auburndale earned spots at the state tournament after earning top-three finishes at a WIAA Division 3 individual wrestling sectional Saturday at Ladysmith High School.
The top three finishers in each of the 14 weight classes at the sectional qualify for the 2025 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, which will be held Thursday, Feb. 27, through Saturday, March 1, at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Sophomores Kolton Haupt (35-12, 106 pounds) and Aaron Knetter (47-8, 132), and senior Carter Lueck (45-1, 190) won titles for Stratford, while junior Zade Grassl (44-6, 126) and senior Colton Weiler (54-0, 150) were sectional champions for Auburndale.
Weiler pinned Stratford’s Mathais Kaiser (41-9) in 1:10 to win the 150-pound title. Trenton Cournoyer (53-3, 120), and Colin Cournoyer (44-6, 126) also placed second for Stratford.
Brandon Knetter (18-15, 157) and Drew Gage (44-9, 285) both finished third for the Tigers to also earn state tournament berths.
In addition to the two champions, freshman Carson Weiler (45-11, 113), senior Derek Godard (47-10, 120) and sophomore Carter Grassl (32-16, 175) each took third for Auburndale to reach state.
