EAU CLAIRE – Marshfield fell behind by double-digits early and could not recover, losing 69-48 to No. 1 seed Eau Claire Memorial in a WIAA Division 1 girls basketball regional final Saturday night at Memorial High School.
The Old Abes (24-2), much like in a matchup earlier this season, took it to Marshfield (14-12) early, pulling out to a 10-point lead in the opening minutes, and went up 41-22 by halftime.
The Tigers held their own in the second half behind the play of senior guard Zaida Kolbeck, but it wasn’t enough.
Kolbeck made 15 of 17 free throws to finish with a team-high 26 points and surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career in her final game, which was the 98th in her four-year tenure.
Norah Kling topped Memorial with 30 points, going 11-for-16 from the field and 8 of 9 at the free throw line.
Memorial moves on to a Division 1 sectional semifinal against Neenah on Thursday at a site yet to be determined.
