Pittsville outlasts Columbus Catholic to win WIAA Division 5 girls basketball regional semifinal

PITTSVILLE – The Columbus Catholic girls basketball team had its season end Friday night with a 59-41 loss to No. 3 seed Pittsville in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal at Pittsville High School.

The Panthers took control in the first half, taking an eight-point lead, and outscored Columbus Catholic (16-10) by 10 in the second half to finish off the victory.

Pittsville went on to lose 46-38 to No. 2 seed Stevens Point Pacelli on Saturday in a D-5 regional final.

Gracie Wilczek had 14 points and Izzy Holz added 12 for the Dons, who shot just 28 percent (11-for-41) and were only 6-for-22 from 3-point range.

Brynn Friday finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, and Reese Grimm added 16 points for Pittsville.
