Owen-Withee jumps out to early lead, takes care of Columbus Catholic girls basketball

MARSHFIELD – Owen-Withee jumped out quickly and never looked back, beating Marshfield Columbus Catholic 50-36 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The Blackhawks (12-2, 8-2 Cloverbelt East) led 18-7 after the first quarter and 27-18 at halftime as Columbus (5-9, 4-7 Cloverbelt East) never recovered.

Elizabeth Manlick scored 13 points, making 5 of 6 free throws, but was just 4 of 15 from the field. Columbus made just 14 of 49 shots overall and 8 of 17 free throws in losing for the seventh time in its last nine games.

Alyssa Gordon had 16 points and Emily Heggemeier added 13 for the Blackhawks.

Columbus plays at Colby on Tuesday.
