MarshfieldAreaSports.com and Zaleski Sports serve as co-sponsors of the award, which is in its 12th year.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award, which will be given out monthly from September 2024 through June 2025: Abbotsford, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.

Online voting will take place from 4 p.m. Monday, March 3, through 4 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at MarshfieldAreaSports.com. The winner of the February Athlete of the Month will be announced on March 10 and will be presented an award. Voting is limited to one vote per day, resetting each day.

The winners of the Schierl Tire Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year will be announced in early July.

Winners of the Athlete of the Month awards are ineligible to be nominated again during that particular sports season.

All decisions regarding voting and nominations made by MarshfieldAreaSports.com and Zaleski Sports are final.

The WIAA state individual wrestling tournament overlapped the end of February and the start of March, so athletes involved were considered for the February award.

Past winners of the award during the 2024-25 school year are: Abbotsford football player Christian Fuentes (September), Stratford volleyball player Kalyn Schueller (October), Marshfield girls basketball player Zaida Kolbeck (November), Spencer boys basketball player Sam Bezlyk (December) and Auburndale girls basketball player Myah Katzenberger (January).
