Columbus Catholic boys basketball falls to Cochrane-Fountain City in WIAA Division 5 sectional semifinal

OSSEO – No. 1 seed Cochrane-Fountain City held second-seed Marshfield Columbus Catholic to just 38 percent shooting and held off the Dons for a 60-51 win in a WIAA Division 5 boys basketball sectional semifinal Thursday at Osseo-Fairchild High School.

The Dons trailed by three at halftime and could not make up any ground as Cochrane-Fountain City outscored them by six to earn the victory.

Cochrane-Fountain City (26-2) went on to defeat undefeated Royall 53-41 in the sectional final Saturday to reach the WIAA state tournament for the first time since 2014.

Cameron Lipinski made three 3-pointers and scored 17 points to lead the Pirates.

Mac Konieczny had 18 points on the strength of five 3-pointers, and Ben Weiland knocked down four shots from long range to finish with 16 points for Columbus Catholic, which finishes the season with an 18-9 record.

Cochrane-Fountain City will play in a Division 5 semifinal at the 2025 WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison on Friday morning.
