MADISON – Five divisional championships were settled as the 2025 WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament concluded Saturday, March 22, at the Kohl Center.
Cochrane-Fountain City (28-2), playing in just its second state tournament, snagged its first state title with a 60-54 win over Sheboygan Lutheran in the Division 5 championship.
In the Division 4 final, La Crosse Aquinas (26-3) routed Bonduel (28-2) 74-45 to claim its fifth state championship. Aquinas also won titles in 2003, 2008, 2011 and 2013. Bonduel was making its first state tournament appearance. Trey Bahr had 20 points and nine assists in the win for Aquinas.
Milwaukee Academy of Science won its first state title, taking down Freedom 57-54 in the Division 3 championship game. Freedom fought back from an eight-point deficit in the final seven minutes to get to within one with 28 seconds left, but did not score again. Devin Brown had 17 points and 19 rebounds for Academy of Science (25-1), while Drew Kortz scored 29 points, and Donovan Davis had 19 points and 16 rebounds for Freedom (28-2).
Wauwatosa West (24-6) held off Racine Park 60-57 to win the Division 2 championship game. The state title for West comes in its first-ever state tournament appearance.
The night ended with a 57-55 victory for Wisconsin Lutheran over Marshfield in the Division 1 final. Wisconsin Lutheran (28-2) scored the final seven points of the game to earn its second-straight state title after winning the Division 2 crown a year ago. Marshfield was making its first trip to the state finals since finishing as the runner-up in 1940.
