RHINELANDER – Marshfield came back from a five-run deficit to defeat Hayward 15-5 in six innings in its season-opener at the Hodag Dome on Thursday night.

The Tigers fell behind 5-0 after 1½ innings before roaring back, tying the game with a three-run third inning thanks to a two-run single by Madison Kraus and an error by the Hurricanes.

Marshfield took the lead on a home run by Lillian Griesbach in the fourth, added another in the fifth, and finished off the game due to the 10-run rule with an eight-run sixth.

Lydia Garvin and Kraus each had three hits, Griesbach and Kraus both drove in three, and Molly Fox had a double and four RBI in the victory for the Tigers.

Fox picked up the pitching win, striking out nine in six complete innings. She allowed nine hits and four walks.

Marshfield will take on Medford in a Bracket 1 semifinal at 10:15 a.m. Friday, and will play for either the championship or third place at 1:45 p.m.
