RHINELANDER – The Marshfield softball team ended up with a third-place finish in Bracket 1 at the Danny Mac Tournament at the Hodag Dome.
The Tigers lost a semifinal game to Medford 4-1 before defeating Somerset 3-2 in the third-place game. Medford went on to defeat Rice Lake 10-9 to win the bracket title.
Marshfield had eight hits in the loss to Medford, but could only produce one run.
Taylar Weis singled, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on a groundout by Laila Oppman in the top of the second inning to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Medford tied it in the third and scored three times in the fifth to pull ahead.
Rhyan Costa had an RBI single in the first inning and hit a solo home run in the fourth for Marshfield in the win over Somerset. The Tigers added a run in the fifth when Lillian Griesbach doubled and came around to score on a fielder’s choice grounder by Molly Fox.
Griesbach, Costa and Madilyn Cole all had two hits for the Tigers.
Fox picked up the pitching win for Marshfield, striking out seven in a complete-game effort.
Weather permitting, Marshfield (2-1) will host a nonconference doubleheader against Chippewa Falls on Tuesday at Madison Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
