AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale boys basketball team won for the seventh straight time, blasting Wausau Newman Catholic 67-48 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Friday night at Auburndale High School.
The Apaches were highly efficient on offense, making 27 of 42 shots from the floor. It was fourth game in a row Auburndale shot higher than 50 percent from the field.
Austin Hawkins led the way, making 10 of 13 shots and scored a game-high 24 points for Auburndale (15-2, 10-1 Marawood South). Jake Hansen added 13 points, and Markus Kleifgen and C.J. Castellano each added 10 for the Apaches. Castellano added eight assists as Auburndale had 18 total on 27 made field goals.
Auburndale cruised out to a 33-16 lead at halftime and maintained its lead throughout the second half.
Justin Heeg led Newman (6-10, 4-7 Marawood South) with 14 points.
Auburndale hosts Loyal in a nonconference game Tuesday and plays at Pittsville in a Marawood South tilt on Thursday.
