Vote now for the Schierl Tire and Auto Service March High School Athlete of the Month

It is time to vote for the Schierl Tire and Auto Service High School Athlete of the Month for March.

MarshfieldAreaSports.com and Zaleski Sports serve as co-sponsors of the award, which is in its 12th year.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award, which will be given out monthly from September 2024 through June 2025: Abbotsford, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.

Online voting will take place from 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, through 4 p.m. Monday, April 7, at MarshfieldAreaSports.com. The winner of the March Athlete of the Month will be announced on April 8 and will be presented an award. Voting is limited to one vote per day, resetting each day.

The winners of the Schierl Tire Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year will be announced in early July.

Winners of the Athlete of the Month awards are ineligible to be nominated again during that particular sports season.

All decisions regarding voting and nominations made by MarshfieldAreaSports.com and Zaleski Sports are final.

Past winners of the award during the 2024-25 school year are: Abbotsford football player Christian Fuentes (September), Stratford volleyball player Kalyn Schueller (October), Marshfield girls basketball player Zaida Kolbeck (November), Spencer boys basketball player Sam Bezlyk (December), Auburndale girls basketball player Myah Katzenberger (January), and Marshfield wrestler Ava Gardner (February).

The nominees for the March award are:

*Jordyn Jaglinski, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption girls basketball. Jaglinski, a junior, scored in double figures in all six of the Royals’ postseason games, including a team-high 13 points in Assumption’s win over Barneveld in the WIAA Division 5 state championship game. Jaglinski scored 21 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in the Royals’ sectional semifinal win over Stevens Point Pacelli on March 6. She finished the season averaging 15.1 points per game with 88 made 3-pointers on 44 percent shooting from long range.

*Landon Lee, Marshfield boys basketball. Lee, a senior point guard, was integral and helping the Tigers reach the WIAA Division 1 state finals. Lee scored 19 points in a regional semifinal win over Appleton East on March 7 and added 12 and masterful ball handling in a sectional semifinal victory over Eau Claire Memorial on March 13. In the state tournament finals against Wisconsin Lutheran, Lee was one fire, scoring a game-high 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting and 4-for-6 from 3-point range, in the Tigers’ two-point loss. Lee was a unanimous first-team all-Wisconsin Valley Conference selection.

*Laney Pankratz, Stratford softball. Pankratz finished 9-for-11 at the plate and picked up two pitching wins as the Tigers won their bracket at the Danny Mac Tournament at the Hodag Dome in Rhinelander on March 28-29. She went 3-for-3 in the championship game win over Shawano, and struck out five while giving up two runs and six hits in the circle in a complete-game effort.

*Blake Raab, Auburndale boys basketball. Raab, who was chosen as the Marawood Conference South Division Player of the Year, had three big games for the Eagles as they made a run to the WIAA Division 4 sectional finals. Raab scored 25 points in an overtime win over Colby and had 16 points in a victory over Marathon in regionals, before putting up 23 points in a sectional semifinal win over rival Stratford.

*Kendall Weiler, Owen-Withee girls basketball. Weiler, a first-team all-Cloverbelt Conference East Division performer for the second year in a row, helped the Blackhawks reach the WIAA state tournament. She scored 19 points in a regional final win over Gilman and led Owen-Withee with 11 points, making 9 of 11 free throws, in the team’s loss to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in a Division 5 semifinal at the Resch Center in Green Bay on March 14.

*Grasci Yonker, Edgar softball. Yonker, a senior, went 4-for-6 with two home runs and six RBI for Edgar, which finished 2-1 in its bracket at the Danny Mac Tournament at the Hodag Dome in Rhinelander on March 28-29.
