Columbus Catholic baseball picks up pair of wins at Mauston

MAUSTON – The Columbus Catholic baseball team cracked out double-digit hits in consecutive games to win a pair of nonconference contests Friday at the Woodside Sports Complex.

The Dons defeated Flambeau 12-1 and Boyceville 5-2 to improve to 2-1 this season.

In the win over Flambeau, Mac Konieczny threw four shutout innings with six strikeouts and no walks, and also went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the way for the Dons.

Carter Sommer scored twice and drove in three, and Carson Eckes and Devlin Timmler each had a pair of hits and two runs scored for the Dons.

Against Boyceville, Sommer earned the win for the Dons with four shutout innings of relief, finishing with five strikeouts and five walks.

Eckes hit a home run, and Ben Weiland had three hits and two RBI in the victory.

Columbus Catholic will wrap up play at the two-day event Saturday with a game against Montello at 9 a.m.
