Huge fifth-inning lifts Columbus Catholic baseball past Montello

MAUSTON – The Columbus Catholic baseball team wrapped up a perfect weekend at the Woodside Sports Complex with a 19-7 rout of Montello on Saturday morning.

The Dons finished the two-day event at 3-0 and improve to 3-1 this season.

The Dons trailed 6-5 after four innings before erupting for a 14-run fifth and ended up winning via the 10-run rule.

Columbus Catholic took advantage of six Montello errors and walked 14 times to score 19 runs on only nine hits.

Carson Eckes and Devlin Timmler each scored three times, and Daxtyn Wenzel, Timmler, Drew Lang and Ryan Bernick each had two RBI for the Dons in the victory.

Gabe Lopez had two doubles and drove in five runs for Montello (1-2).

Columbus Catholic will host Loyal for its Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener on Thursday.
