Marshfield softball outlasts Merrill in WVC opener

MERRILL – The Marshfield softball team scored three times over the final two innings and pulled off a 9-7 win over Merrill in a slugfest Thursday at the Merrill Area Recreation Center.

The game was tied 6-6 after five innings before the Tigers scored twice on an error in the top of the sixth to grab the lead.

Marshfield added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Molly Fox.

Merrill scored once in the bottom of the inning before Angela Barnhardt worked out of the jam to finish off the victory for the Tigers.

Lillian Griesbach had a double and a home run with three runs scored and two RBI for Marshfield (5-2, 1-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference). Madison Kraus also homered and drove in three for the Tigers.

Grace Hoff had three hits, including a homer, and drove in four for Merrill (4-1, 1-1 WVC).

Marshfield will play a nonconference doubleheader at Holmen on Friday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
