STRATFORD – Stratford scored a pair of runs in the opening inning and freshman Christian Rehm made the lead hold up as the Tigers defeated Athens 3-1 in a nonconference baseball game Friday at the Tiger Stadium Baseball Field.

Jack Tubbs reached on an error to lead off the first inning for the Tigers and scored on a double by Riley Spindler as Stratford took a 1-0 lead before a batter was retired.

Spindler scored on a groundout by Jaeger Ormond to up the lead to 2-0, and Stratford tacked on another run in the second when Matthew Schoenfuss doubled and Tubbs followed with a triple.

That was more than enough for Rehm, who struck out 12 and allowed just two hits and an unearned run in six strong innings for the Tigers. Brady Berg threw a scoreless seventh to earn the save as Stratford improves to 2-1.

Stratford will be back in action Monday at home against Newman Catholic for its Marawood South opener.
