MAUSTON – For the second weekend in a row, the Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team headed to the Woodside Sports Complex, and for the second weekend in a row, the Dons came away with three wins.
The Dons extended their winning streak to six, all coming in Mauston, as they defeated Laona/Wabeno 15-5 on Saturday.
Both teams came out of the gate hot, with the Dons leading 7-5 after two innings.
That would be all the Rebels would get against Columbus Catholic pitchers Ryan Bernick and Mac Konieczny. The Dons tacked on seven runs in the sixth inning to finish off the game via the 10-run rule.
Carter Sommer went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and five RBI, and Rocco Maher smacked a home run to pace the Dons (6-1).
Columbus Catholic will open its Cloverbelt Conference East Division schedule at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield on Monday against Spencer. Game time is 5 p.m.
