MARSHFIELD – Paige Johnson scored a goal 5:22 into overtime to lift the Marshfield girls hockey team to a 3-2 win over Hudson in a nonconference game Saturday at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Arena.
The Tigers improve to 15-4 with the win.
Marshfield scored first, when Abbey Besler netted a goal off assists from Charlotte Tierney and Torri Esser at the 11:32 mark of the second period.
Hudson stormed back with pair of goals by Sydney Squires, to take a 2-1 lead, before Johnson scored on the power-play, off a Besler assist, with 2:16 to go in regulation, forcing overtime.
Johnson scored the game-winner off an assist from Nicole Karl.
“I have to give the Hudson team credit,” Marshfield coach Nate Sparbel said. “As much as we had the puck in their zone, they never broke stride or gave up. They have excellent goal tending.
“Paige had a really nice game defensively. She played a big part in this win, including the game-winning goal.”
Marshfield will host Tomahawk in its final regular-season home game of the season at 7 p.m. Monday. The Tigers wrap up the regular season with games at Medford on Feb. 11 and at Altoona against the Eau Claire Area Stars on Feb. 12. WIAA playoff action begins Feb. 17 as Marshfield will host Tomahawk again at 7 p.m.
