AUBURNDALE – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to win a pitchers’ duel over Auburndale 2-1 in the Marawood Conference South Division softball opener for both teams on Monday at Auburndale High School.
Assumption’s Macy Vollert and Auburndale’s Morgan Griesbach went toe-to-toe, each allowing just five hits and no walks. Vollert finished with 10 strikeouts for the Royals (6-2, 1-0 Marawood South), while Griesbach struck out nine for Auburndale (3-3, 0-1 Marawood South).
Vollert and Emily Aue had RBI singles in the sixth for Assumption to pull out the victory.
Auburndale scored its only run in the fifth on a bunt single by Jalynn Scherr.
The two teams will play again Tuesday at Assumption High School beginning at 4:45 p.m.
