MARSHFIELD – D.C. Everest jumped out to a seven-run lead and held on to defeat Marshfield 12-8 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball opener for both teams Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.
The Evergreens scored in four of the first five innings to take an 8-1 lead only to see Marshfield creep within three after a pair of two-run innings.
D.C. Everest put the game away with a four-run seventh, much needed as the Tigers scored three times in the bottom of the frame but it wasn’t nearly enough.
D.C. Everest (2-3 overall) finished with 12 hits, including three from Cole VanSlyke, who had two doubles and three RBI. Ty Rohde and Logan George each added a pair of RBI for the Evergreens.
Marshfield had 11 hits, three from Dayton Bugar, and two each by Jakob Sadowska and Tyler Kremer.
The two teams will play again Thursday at D.C. Everest starting at 5 p.m.
