MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield girls hockey team made a statement Monday night that it is ready to make another strong playoff run.
The Tigers throttled Tomahawk 11-3 in a Great Northern Conference game at the Marshfield Youth Ice and Recreation Arena to improve to 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the GNC. Tomahawk drops to 2-15 and 1-11 in the conference.
Marshfield will host Tomahawk in a WIAA regional final on Feb. 17.
Abbey Besler had five goals, Tori Esser added three and Naomi Crump scored twice as the Tigers dominated throughout.
Besler got the ball rolling with a goal just 2:10 into the game and only 35 seconds later Crump scored. Marshfield put up five goals in the first period and added four more in the second.
The Tigers wrap up their regular season with games at Medford on Friday and at Altoona against the Eau Claire Area Stars on Saturday.
