Wausau East knocks off Marshfield boys hockey

MARSHFIELD – Dan Mansell had two goals and two assists to lead the Wausau East boys hockey team to a 7-2 win over Marshfield in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game on Tuesday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice and Recreation Arena.

East led 5-0 through second periods before Marshfield got on the scoreboard. Tom Claessens scored off assists from Bo Howard and Zac Alboreo, and Alboreo later scored off an assist from Tylan Schreiner, but the Tigers only managed 14 shots on goal in the game.

The loss is Marshfield’s sixth straight in the Wisconsin Valley Conference as it falls to 6-15 overall and 1-10 in conference. East improves to 19-4 and 10-2 in the WVC.

Mac Alboreo had 26 saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield wraps up its regular season Thursday at home against Merrill. Marshfield plays at Chequamegon/Phillips in Park Falls in a WIAA regional final on Feb. 17.
