MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County fought back from a 15-point halftime deficit to force overtime, but the Marauders came up just short of a victory, losing to UW-Marathon County 80-79 in a Wisconsin Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at the Marauder Gym.

Marshfield trailed 35-20 at halftime before storming back to force overtime.

Janice Reeves led the Marauders (6-13, 6-9 WCC) with 23 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists. Paige Albrecht added 20 points, four assists and three steals for Marshfield.

Marshfield shot just 2 of 15 from the free-throw line in the first half but came back behind its defense as Reeves and Albrecht led the charge.

“At halftime we decided to put some pressure on their guards bringing up the ball and Janice Reeves and Paige Albrecht created turnover after turnover to give us the momentum we needed to get us back into the game,” UW-Marshfield coach Lori Galetka said. “The players gave a great effort today. This was a team that beat us by 30 at their place early in the season.”

Bailey Klieforth added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Marissa Draxler had 12 points and four steals for the Marauders, who play at UW-Fond du Lac on Monday.
