Columbus Catholic boys basketball uses overtime to topple Gilman

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team outscored Gilman 7-1 in overtime to beat the Pirates 48-42 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Tuesday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The win helps the Dons keep pace with Colby for first place in the Cloverbelt East standings. Columbus improves to 15-4 overall and 14-2 in the conference, tied with Colby for first with two Cloverbelt East games remaining.

Travis Pischel scored 14 points and Paul Selz added 13 for Columbus, which led 15-5 after one quarter only to see Gilman storm back.

The Pirates (9-9, 9-7 Cloverbelt East) outscored Columbus 26-17 over the middle two quarters and 10-9 in the fourth to force overtime.

The Dons are back in action Friday at winless Granton.
