Marshfield boys basketball teams edge Wausau East

WAUSAU – The Marshfield boys basketball team pulled out a 53-51 win over Wausau East in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Tuesday night at Wausau East High School.

The Tigers, who had lost four of their last six games, improved to 15-5 overall and 6-5 in the WVC. East falls to 6-13 and 1-9 in conference action.

Marshfield has a nonconference game at Holmen on Monday and closes out its regular-season schedule on Feb. 24 at Wisconsin Rapids.

Cale Zuiker scored 18 points, with nine coming on three 3-pointers, and Luke Zuiker, a sophomore making his varsity debut, had 16 points for Marshfield. Dustin Thumann added 10.

Tigers senior point guard Sully Luepke also made his long-awaited season debut following a broken leg suffered during the football season. He had one point.

In the JV game, the Marshfield boys won 40-38.

Luke Olson had more than half of the Tigers’ points, scoring 22, which included four 3-pointers.

Marshfield improves to 12-8 with the victory.
