UW-Marshfield/Wood County women win at Marinette, men fall

MARINETTE – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County basketball teams split at UW-Marinette in their respective regular-season finales on Wednesday.

The UW-Marshfield/Wood County women won 72-65, while the men lost 92-70.

In the women’s game, Marshfield trailed 40-37 before rallying in the second half to pull out the victory and improve to 7-14 on the season.

Paige Albrecht had 24 points and four steals, Sara Bredemann added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Ashley Pongratz had 13 points and 16 rebounds for the Marauders.

The Marshfield men fell behind 55-25 in the first half and didn’t recover.

Trevor Gorman had 20 points and Jake Scheppler scored 17 for the Marauders (8-13).

Wisconsin Junior College Athletic Association playoffs begin Saturday and continue next week, with the state tournament scheduled for Feb. 26-27.

The Marauders men host UW-Richland on Saturday at 2 p.m. The winner plays at UW-Rock County in Janesville on Wednesday. The women’s schedule has not been announced.
