PARK FALLS – For the second time this season, the Marshfield boys hockey team lost to Chequamegon/Phillips in overtime. This time it ended the Tigers’ season.
Chequamegon/Phillips toppled Marshfield 3-2 in double overtime on Thursday night in a WIAA boys hockey regional final.
The Tigers’ season ends with a 6-16-1 record.
C/P moves on to a sectional semifinal at Eau Claire Memorial on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first period, Marshfield got on the scoreboard first.
Tom Claessens scored an unassisted goal 1:50 into the second period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Chequamegon/Phillips responded when Zachary Lemke scored at the 5:54 mark and teams were tied 1-1 heading into the third period.
Claessens scored again on the power play at 4:16 of the third only to see C/P come back once more when Lemke got a shot past Marshfield goalie Mac Alboreo (37 saves) at the 5:44 mark.
Lemke scored again, hitting the game-winner 7:05 into the second overtime.
