Colby holds off Gilboy, Spencer boys basketball

COLBY – The Spencer boys basketball team had first-place Colby on the ropes, but in the end the Hornets pulled out a 60-54 win on Friday night at Colby High School.

The Rockets trailed by just one, 43-42, after three quarters but Colby used a 17-12 run in the final eight minutes to pull away.

Colby improves to 17-3 and 15-2 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division with its conference final Monday against Augusta. The Hornets are tied with Marshfield Columbus Catholic for first place in the standings.

Spencer falls to 9-10 and 8-8 in the Cloverbelt East.

Steven Gilboy had his second-straight dominating game for the Rockets, scoring 29 points and hauling down 14 rebounds. Wyatt Phillips added 10 points.

Jeremy Rahm led four Colby players in double figures with 15 points. He added a team-high 14 rebounds.

Spencer plays at Neillsville on Monday. The Rockets game against Greenwood scheduled for Feb. 10 has been rescheduled for Tuesday at Spencer.
