MADISON – Marshfield junior Aaron Scheets finished 21st in the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday at the WIAA Division 1 Boys Swimming Championships at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium.
Scheets, making his first state meet appearance, swam the race in a time of 56.78 seconds. It was just off his career-best time he set at last week’s sectional in Hudson of 56.24 seconds.
Austin Byrd of Chippewa Falls/McDonell won the race in 50.74 seconds, 1.05 seconds over runner-up Evan Barta of Hartland Arrowhead. Nicholas Petersen of Mequon Homestead was third in 52.15 seconds.
Madison Memorial won the team title with 234.5 points, well ahead of second-place Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial (192). Eau Claire Memorial/North, the Hudson sectional championship, was third with 180 points.
