Liz Breu nets 25 points as Auburndale girls basketball team holds off Marathon

MARATHON – Auburndale senior Liz Breu scored 25 points, and the Apaches needed every one of them in posting a 49-45 win over Marathon in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Tuesday night at Marathon High School.

Breu hit 8 of 10 shots from the field and 9 of 12 free throws to accumulate her game-high 25 points. Kelly Tomfohrde added 10 points and Lindsay Gotz had eight points and 12 rebounds for Auburndale, which improves to 17-3 and 11-2 in the Marawood South.

Kayla Stanley led Marathon (13-6, 6-6 Marawood South) with 15 points.

Auburndale used a 17-12 advantage in the second quarter to erase a first-quarter deficit and take a 26-24 lead heading into halftime.

The Apaches outscored Marathon by one point in each of the final two quarters, making 9 of 13 from the free-throw line.

Auburndale plays at Stratford on Thursday.
