Marshfield boys basketball loses regular-season finale at Wisconsin Rapids; JV team wins

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids wrapped up an undefeated season in the Wisconsin Valley Conference by crushing Marshfield 54-31 in a boys basketball game Thursday night at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.

Marshfield fell to 7-6 over its last 12 games following its 9-0 start to begin the season. Last year’s WVC champions finish the regular season 16-6 and 6-6 in the Valley. Rapids improves to 21-1 and 12-0 in the Valley.

Rapids led 9-7 after a tight first quarter, but blew the game open by outscoring the Tigers 29-14 over the middle two quarters.

Elliot Ashbeck had eight points and Cale Zuiker scored six to lead Marshfield.

Joe Ritchay scored 19 points and Bob Slovensky added 16 for the Raiders.

Marshfield has eight days off before hosting Eau Claire Memorial in a WIAA Division 1 regional final at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the Marshfield High School Fieldhouse.

The Marshfield JV boys team finished its season with a 13-9 record after beating Wisconsin Rapids 49-44.

Isaac Accola had 14 points and Luke Olson hit 8 of 10 free throws and finished with eight points for the Tigers.
