SPENCER – A 12-3 run in the third quarter broke open a tight game and led the Spencer girls basketball team to a 40-33 win over Owen-Withee in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday night at Spencer High School.
Courtney Schulz led the Rockets (16-3, 11-3 Cloverbelt East) with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Krystal Weier added seven points and six rebounds for Spencer, which opened up a 1½ game lead over Owen-Withee (15-5, 10-5 Cloverbelt East) in the conference.
With the game tied at 24-24 at halftime, Spencer outscored the Blackhawks 12-3 in the third quarter to open up a nine-point lead.
Alyssa Gordon led Owen-Withee with 12 points.
Spencer plays at Gilman and O-W takes on undefeated Neillsville on Friday.
