CADOTT – Steven Gilboy scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Spencer, but the Rockets couldn’t overcome 27 points and 16 board from Cadott’s Nathan Spindler in a 52-44 loss to the Hornets in a seventh-place Cloverbelt Conference Crossover boys basketball game Thursday night at Cadott High School.
Spindler dominated inside, making 11 of 13 shots from the field, and added 5 of 7 from the free-throw line and three blocked shots to lift Cadott (6-16) to the victory.
Aside from Spindler, Cadott struggled as the rest of the team made just 7 of 34 shots from the floor, and Spencer kept it close.
The Rockets (9-12) trailed 23-21 at halftime and 35-32 after three quarters before Cadott pulled ahead in the fourth with a 17-12 run.
Phillip Ivacic added 14 points for Spencer, which wraps up its regular season Friday night at Neillsville in its Cloverbelt East finale. The game was originally scheduled for Monday, but rescheduled due to school being canceled because of a snow storm.
Spencer opens WIAA Division 5 playoff action with a regional quarterfinal at Greenwood on Tuesday.
