Marshfield’s Katie Wolff scores eight for Winona St. in NCAA D-II tournament loss

DURANGO, Colo. – Metro State held Winona State scoreless through 10 minutes in the first half and handed the Warriors a 70-56 loss Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament at Fort Lewis University.

Marshfield High School graduate Katie Wolff, a sophomore, scored eight points and had three assists for Winona State (21-9).

The Warriors struggled out of the gates shooting 27 percent from the field in the first half.

After trailing as much as 16 points Winona State, tournament champions of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, managed to cut the Metro State lead down to 7 points midway through the second half.

Metro State (Colo.) began a 7-0 run and stretched their lead back to 56-40 with 6 minutes left.

Metro State (28-2) will play Wayne State (Neb.) (28-2) in a second-round game Saturday at 6 p.m.
