STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield boys track and field team took third and the girls were fifth on Tuesday at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Meet at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
D.C. Everest won the boys team title and Stevens Point took first in the girls standings.
Marshfield’s Jeremy Robinson ended his strong indoor season with three WVC indoor titles. Robinson won the 800 meters in 51.04 seconds, the 200 in 23.33 and the triple jump (43 feet, 10 inches) to lift the Tigers to their third-place finish. He also finished sixth in the long jump (19-9).
Daniel Kniech also had a strong night for the Tigers, taking second in the 55 hurdles (8.20) and third in the 200 hurdles (27.32).
Riley Gebelein was third in the 55 meters (6.73), Keron Hewlett took third in the long jump (20-5½) and Brad Krueger was fourth in the pole vault (11-0) for Marshfield’s other top-four finishes.
The Marshfield girls were led by a second-place finish by the 800 relay team of Alexa Fritsch, Gabriella Myrie, Nikki Youngblood and Bisola Omoba (1:52.38). The team set a new indoor school record for the Tigers in the event, breaking the mark of 1:52.76 set in 2006.
Omoba also had an individual runner-up, taking second in the 200 (27.80), and setting another school indoor record. Omoba’s time breaks Kelsey Weigel’s record of 27.88 set last year.
Myrie was third in the 55 meters (7.69) and 200 (28.03), and Marshfield had three fourths and two fifths at the meet. Myrie’s preliminary heat time of 7.60 tied a school record set in 1992 by Laurie Goers.
Amy Krogman took fourth in the 55 hurdles (10.19), Rebecca Voss finished fourth in the 1,600 (5:34.13) and the 1,600 relay team of Fritsch, Amanda Cousins, Miranda Snortheim and Youngblood was fourth in 4:33.98.
Taking fifth for the Tigers were Cousins in the 400 (1:07.40) and Hailey Weiler in the pole vault (8-0).
“The girls did a great job tonight and we asked a lot of them,” Marshfield girls coach Dan Akin said. “They responded to the challenge. We look foward to a strong outdoor season.”
The Marshfield boys team is scheduled to compete at a meet at Wuasau East on April 19 and the girls will be back in action April 21 at D.C. Everest.
